Manali Petrochemicals Enlarges Propylene Glycol Capacity to 72,000 TPA Ahead of Regulatory Go-Ahead

Manali Petrochemicals Ltd (MPL), a Chennai‑based subsidiary of Singapore’s AM International, has announced a major expansion of its propylene glycol plant, raising its annual production capacity from 22,000 tonnes to 72,000 tonnes. The upgraded facility is pending formal approval and is set to commence operations once it secures the Consent to Operate (CTO) from the Tamil Nadu State Pollution Control Board.

This strategic expansion, adding 50,000 TPA of capacity, marks a pivotal advancement in MPL’s alignment with India’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives. The company aims to reduce reliance on imported propylene glycol by scaling its domestic manufacturing footprint and strengthening its standing as a leader in the specialty chemicals sector.

MPL Chairman Ashwin Muthiah emphasized the importance of the milestone: “The state-of-the-art facility reflects our commitment to sustainable growth, meeting evolving customer expectations, and reinforcing our market leadership,” while supporting India’s broader economic resilience efforts.

Once operational, the expanded plant will enable MPL to better serve growing demand across key end‑use sectors such as pharmaceuticals, food & beverage, and personal care products. Built using advanced production technologies and leveraging local expertise, the facility underscores India’s emerging role as a competitive hub in global petrochemical manufacturing.

MPL’s move signals increased confidence in the domestic propylene glycol landscape and anticipates rising industrial consumption. As the company awaits regulatory clearance, stakeholders across supply and procurement chains will be watching closely for the formal launch and its impact on domestic supply dynamics.
