Asia Propylene Prices Hold Steady Amid Higher Energy Costs, Weak Demand

Propylene prices in Asia remained unchanged on Monday, despite an uptick in energy values. According to a market source speaking to Polymerduniya, cautious sentiment from buyers counterbalanced the upward pressure from rising crude oil prices, resulting in a stable pricing environment across the region.

“Even though crude prices have been climbing, Asian propylene prices did not reflect that bullishness due to subdued buying activity,” the source noted.

FOB Korea propylene prices were assessed steady at USD 735–745/mt, while CFR China levels were also unchanged at USD 765–775/mt, both consistent with last Friday’s assessments.

In related supply-side developments, Taekwang Industrial has extended the shutdown of its propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit in Ulsan, South Korea, until the end of 2025. The unit, which has a propylene capacity of 300,000 mt/year, was taken offline in December 2024 due to commercial constraints.
