Jurong Island’s Acetates Pause: Celanese Pulls Ethyl & Butyl Acetate Unit Offline for Mid-August Maintenance

Celanese has temporarily taken its ethyl acetate (ETAC) and butyl acetate (BUTAC) production facility on Singapore’s Jurong Island offline for maintenance as of mid-August 2025. A Polymerduniya source in Singapore confirmed this development, though details on the duration of the shutdown remain unclear. The plant, situated within Celanese’s broader acetyls production complex on Jurong Island, holds substantial capacity for ETAC and BUTAC production.

This shutdown contributes to ongoing regional tightness in the acetyls chain. Markets in China, for example, have already shown signs of resilience in butyl acetate pricing, buoyed by robust export demand and constrained regional supply amid similar maintenance disruption
