Wanhua Petrochemical (Yantai) has taken its caustic soda unit offline for scheduled maintenance, industry sources confirmed.
According to a Polymerduniya contact in China, the unit was shut in mid-August 2025 and is expected to remain out of operation until the end of September. The source added that while the shutdown is said to be part of routine maintenance work, the exact timeline and details have not been officially confirmed by the company.
Located in Yantai, China, the unit has a production capacity of 720,000 mt/year, making it one of the larger caustic soda facilities in the region. Market participants noted that although short-term supply availability may tighten during the outage, overall market impact is likely to remain limited, given sufficient stock levels and steady demand conditions in China’s domestic market.
The maintenance shutdown comes at a time when regional petrochemical producers are actively balancing output with market dynamics, ensuring operational reliability while responding to fluctuating demand trends.
