Polycarbonate (PC) prices in the United States held steady this week, with the market weighed down by soft demand and ample supply.
A US-based industry source told that sentiment remains muted: “US polycarbonate prices held stable, but the overall market tone stayed sluggish as demand continued to remain weak. Producers across regions pointed to comfortable supply levels, which, combined with subdued buying interest, kept downward pressure on sentiment. Persistent global uncertainty is weighing on consumption patterns, making a meaningful recovery unlikely in the latter part of this year and leaving expectations for next year tilted to the downside.”
Upstream, Bisphenol-A prices also showed little movement, reflecting stable raw material markets in acetone and phenol. Demand for Bisphenol-A is balanced across its primary end-use segments, epoxy and polycarbonate, but both sectors continue to operate at relatively weak levels.
On Thursday, US Gulf Polycarbonate Extrusion grade was assessed at 74–76 cents/lb FOB, unchanged week-on-week. General-purpose molding grade prices also held at 79–81 cents/lb FOB, marking another week of stability.
In Asia, however, prices edged lower. CFR China Polycarbonate Extrusion grade was assessed at USD 1,440–1,460/mt, while General-purpose molding grade stood at the same range, both slipping USD 10/mt from the previous week.
