PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical Poised for Temporary LLDPE Unit Shutdown in September

PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical is reportedly preparing to take its Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) unit offline for a scheduled maintenance shutdown later this month. According to market sources in China, the company is expected to halt operations at the facility beginning September 15, 2025, with production anticipated to resume around September 27, 2025.

Although the timeline has been shared within industry circles, it has not yet been officially confirmed by an authorized spokesperson for the company. This uncertainty has nonetheless drawn attention across the regional polymer market, where any disruption to LLDPE supply can influence short-term pricing trends and trade flows.

The Jilin-based LLDPE unit, which boasts an annual production capacity of 290,000 metric tons, plays a significant role in meeting both domestic and export demand. LLDPE is a key raw material in the manufacturing of packaging films, plastic bags, and other flexible products, making any planned or unplanned shutdown a closely watched development for downstream industries.

Market participants are closely monitoring the situation, weighing the potential effects on supply availability as well as the possibility of short-lived volatility in the polymer sector. While planned maintenance is a routine measure to ensure long-term operational reliability, the temporary reduction in output often sparks speculation over market balances, particularly when such news emerges without official confirmation.

For now, traders and industry observers will remain watchful for further updates or an official statement from PetroChina, which could either confirm or clarify the maintenance schedule in the coming days.
