Dongming Dongfang Chemical Restarts 2-Ethylhexanol Unit in Shandong After Planned Turnaround

Dongming Dongfang Chemical has successfully brought its 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) unit back on stream in Shandong province, China. Market sources informed that the restart took place on September 7, 2025, following an extended maintenance turnaround that began on July 14, 2025. Although confirmation from an authorized company representative has not yet been secured, industry participants widely report that operations have resumed as planned.

The unit, with a nameplate production capacity of 75,000 metric tons per year, plays an important role in meeting regional demand for 2-ethylhexanol, a key intermediate used in the manufacture of plasticizers, coatings, and other downstream products. Its prolonged shutdown over the summer months had temporarily reduced availability in the domestic market, adding some pressure to buyers reliant on steady supplies. The restart is now expected to ease concerns regarding local availability and may also impact short-term price sentiment within the Asian oxo-alcohols market. Traders and end-users alike will be closely watching output levels in the coming weeks to gauge the unit’s stability post-turnaround.
