Hyundai Chemical Poised for October Shutdown of Daesan PP Units, Restart Seen in December

Hyundai Chemical is reportedly preparing to take its polypropylene (PP) units in Daesan, South Korea, offline for planned maintenance, according to a market source. The temporary shutdown is expected to begin around October 13, 2025, with operations likely to resume by December 14, 2025, though the company has yet to release an official confirmation.

The Daesan complex houses two PP units with a combined production capacity of 500,000 metric tons per year, making it a significant supplier to both domestic and export markets. Market participants across Asia are watching closely, as any extended outage could tighten supply and influence pricing for polypropylene in the fourth quarter.

Industry analysts note that the timing of the planned maintenance coincides with seasonal fluctuations in demand, which could further shape negotiations between producers and buyers during the final months of the year. Traders and converters alike are expected to monitor updates from Hyundai Chemical for more definitive guidance on the restart schedule.
