Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical is preparing to take its No. 2 high-density polyethylene (HDPE) unit in Nanjing offline for scheduled maintenance, according to a market source. The shutdown is expected to begin on September 10, 2025 and last until September 17, 2025, although an official confirmation from the company has not yet been issued.
The Nanjing facility’s No. 2 unit has a production capacity of 80,000 metric tons per year, supplying HDPE to both domestic converters and regional export markets. Market watchers note that even a brief outage could influence short-term supply in East China, especially if the restart is delayed or coincides with strong downstream demand from packaging and industrial sectors.
Traders and processors are expected to track updates closely as they assess potential impacts on procurement and pricing through the latter half of September.
