Celanese is preparing to bring its acetic acid unit in Pulau Sakra, Singapore, back online in the first half of October 2025, according to an industry source. The facility has been offline since mid-August 2025 for scheduled maintenance, and while market chatter points to an imminent restart, the company has yet to issue an official confirmation.
With a nameplate capacity of 600,000 metric tons per year, the Pulau Sakra unit is one of the key acetic acid producers in Southeast Asia, supplying downstream markets such as vinyl acetate monomer, adhesives, and solvents. Market participants across the region are closely monitoring developments, as the timing of the restart could influence spot availability and pricing dynamics heading into the final quarter of the year.
Industry analysts note that any delay beyond early October could tighten supplies further, particularly as regional demand typically strengthens toward year-end. Traders and end users are therefore expected to keep a close watch on Celanese’s next moves as they finalize procurement strategies for the coming months.
