Polycarbonate (PC) prices in the United States remained unchanged this week, as the market continued to move through a prolonged low cycle. Industry sources report that both extrusion and general-purpose injection molding grades tracked steady pricing, mirroring a similar trend in key Asian markets.
Market participants pointed to a combination of factors keeping prices in check. Domestic supply has been gradually easing, creating additional downward pressure at a time when export demand is subdued. Trade data showed a sharp drop in U.S. exports alongside weaker upstream imports, with overall trade activity noticeably lower than in previous years. This balance between softer external demand and adequate domestic availability has left producers with little room to push for higher prices.
As of Thursday, Polycarbonate Extrusion grade prices were assessed at 74–76 cents per pound FOB US Gulf, while General Purpose molding grade prices held steady at 79–81 cents per pound FOB US Gulf, both unchanged from the prior week.
Across Asia, the market also exhibited stability. On Thursday, CFR China Polycarbonate Extrusion grade prices were assessed at USD 1,440–1,460 per metric ton, and General Purpose molding grade prices stood at the same USD 1,440–1,460 per metric ton, with both assessments rolling over from last week.
Market analysts suggest that without a significant shift in demand, either domestically or from major export destinations, U.S. polycarbonate prices are likely to maintain this steady pattern in the near term.
