Sichuan Shengda Chemical Prepares for Major PTA Plant Shutdown as Market Watches Closely

The Asian polyester feedstock market is on alert as Sichuan Shengda Chemical New Material plans to take its large-scale purified terephthalic acid (PTA) facility offline for maintenance later this month. A source in China reports that the one-million-metric-ton-per-year plant, located in Nanchong, is slated for a second-half of September 2025 shutdown to undergo a scheduled turnaround.

While the maintenance is expected to be routine, the exact start date and duration remain unconfirmed, and the company has yet to release an official statement. Industry participants say this uncertainty is drawing attention from PTA buyers and downstream polyester producers, who rely on stable supply for fiber, film, and PET resin manufacturing.

Traders across Asia are weighing the potential impact on regional spot prices, noting that even a temporary disruption at such a significant facility can tighten availability and influence short-term contract negotiations. Market observers are now looking for clearer guidance from Sichuan Shengda to gauge how long the outage may last and to adjust procurement strategies accordingly.
