Polymer-grade propylene prices edged lower in the US on Thursday, pressured by sluggish buying and a lack of trading momentum. A market source told a team member that spot PGP levels softened as participants stayed cautious, holding back fresh orders in the face of muted downstream demand.
Delivered polymer-grade propylene in the US Gulf was assessed at 31.00–31.50 cents per pound, down half a cent from Wednesday’s close. Traders described the market as quiet, with few bids or offers emerging through the session.
Refinery-grade propylene, by contrast, held its ground. Spot delivered prices were steady at 28.50–29.00 cents per pound FD US Gulf, suggesting that feedstock availability remains comfortable even as polymer-grade material sees mild downward pressure.
Market watchers noted that without a clear signal from downstream sectors or a shift in fundamentals, price direction is likely to remain soft in the near term, keeping buyers on the sidelines until stronger indicators emerge.
