US Ethylene Holds Steady as Asian Market Softens

US ethylene prices were unchanged on Thursday, reflecting another quiet trading day and a lack of fresh market drivers. A Gulf Coast industry source told a team member that discussions remained muted, with participants largely staying on the sidelines. Spot assessments held firm at 20.00–20.50 cents per pound FD US Gulf, rolling over from Wednesday as both buying and selling interest stayed limited.

Market watchers said the flat pricing underscores balanced supply and demand, with no immediate feedstock or downstream shifts to spark activity. Traders described sentiment as steady but cautious, noting that many are waiting for signs of movement in upcoming contract talks or derivative markets before making new commitments.

Across the Pacific, the picture was more unsettled. Ethylene prices in Northeast Asia slipped to USD 815–825 per metric ton CFR, down USD 20 day on day, as softer demand and ample availability weighed on regional sentiment. The divergence highlights how localized fundamentals continue to guide pricing, keeping the US stable while Asia faces renewed downward pressure.
