Alpek Polyester Plans Maintenance Shutdown at Montreal PET Facility

Alpek Polyester is preparing to take its polyethylene terephthalate plant in Montreal offline for maintenance early next month. A source familiar with the matter told a team member that the company intends to begin the turnaround on October 7, 2025, though the exact length of the outage has yet to be finalized. Official confirmation from the company is still pending, but preliminary planning is underway.

The Montreal facility, which has an annual production capacity of 144,000 metric tons, is a key part of Alpek’s North American PET network. Market participants say the timing of the maintenance will be closely watched, as PET demand typically rises heading into the final quarter of the year. Any extended downtime could tighten regional supply if buying interest improves, though current inventory levels are expected to cushion the immediate impact.

Industry observers note that scheduled maintenance is a routine part of operations for large chemical plants, ensuring reliability and efficiency. Still, the uncertainty around the outage duration has added a note of caution for buyers who rely on steady shipments from the Montreal site.
