Hyosung Vina Chemicals to Shut Down No.2 Polypropylene Unit in Vietnam for Maintenance

Hyosung Vina Chemicals is preparing to take its No.2 polypropylene (PP) unit at Cai Mep, Vietnam, offline for a scheduled maintenance program, according to market sources. The planned shutdown is expected to begin by the end of October 2025 and could extend through early December, temporarily tightening supply availability in the region.

A source close to the matter told that the downtime has been scheduled as part of routine upkeep. “The company is likely to shut the unit by the end of October 2025 for maintenance. The unit is expected to remain offline until early December 2025. An official statement from the concerned authority has not yet been released,” the source said, noting that confirmation from the company is still awaited.

The No.2 PP unit at Cai Mep carries a production capacity of 300,000 metric tons per year, making it a significant contributor to both domestic and export markets. Its output serves key downstream industries such as packaging, automotive components, and consumer goods.

Market participants are watching the development closely, as the shutdown could influence polypropylene supply across Southeast Asia at a time when regional demand has been fluctuating. With global PP markets already facing pressure from uneven demand recovery and volatile feedstock trends, any reduction in output from a major producer like Hyosung is likely to impact trade flows and pricing sentiment in the weeks ahead.
