Dangote plans to raise Nigeria’s PP capacity to 2.4 million tonnes per year

Dangote Group is pleased to announce that it has formed a strategic relationship with Honeywell International Inc to assist the next phase of expansion at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

This agreement will deliver sophisticated technology and services that will allow the refinery to raise its processing capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2028, marking a significant milestone in our long-term goal of building the world’s largest petroleum refining complex.

Honeywell will deliver specialised catalysts, equipment, and process technologies under this arrangement, allowing the refinery to handle a wider range of crude grades more efficiently while also improving product quality and operational reliability.

Honeywell, a worldwide Fortune 100 industrial and technology firm, provides a diverse range of solutions in aviation, automotive, industrial automation, and innovative materials. Honeywell’s UOP division has been a technological partner to Dangote since 2017, offering patented refining systems, catalyst regeneration equipment, high performance column trays, and heat exchanger technologies to support our best-in-class operations.

Dangote Group is also increasing its petrochemical footprint. As part of the larger agreement, we are expanding our polypropylene capacity to 2.4 million metric tons per year using Honeywell’s Oleflex technology.

Polypropylene is a commonly utilized industrial polymer in packaging, manufacturing, and automotive applications.

In addition to refining expansion, Dangote Group is moving on with the next phase of its fertilizer growth strategy in Nigeria. We will raise our urea production capacity from 3 million to 9 million metric tons per year. The present factory has two trains of 1.5 million metric tons each.

The expansion will add four more trains to accommodate rising demand for high-quality fertilizer in Africa and other global markets.

Dangote Group remains completely committed to delivering world-class industrial capacity, enhancing Nigeria’s energy security, and promoting long-term economic growth through long-term investment, innovation, and strategic global collaboration.
