Enterprise Products has taken its No. 2 propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit at Mont Belvieu, Texas offline as of September 11, 2025 for maintenance, according to sources in the U.S. team. The shutdown was reported internally but has not yet been officially confirmed by the company. How long the unit will remain out of service remains unclear.
The PDH-2 unit, part of Enterprise’s Mont Belvieu complex, carries a substantial capacity: about 750,000 metric tons per year of propylene. Given that level of output, even a temporary suspension is likely to ripple through downstream markets, particularly for polypropylene and related polymers, where supply tightness could emerge depending on the duration of the outage.
Mont Belvieu is a key hub for the U.S. propane dehydrogenation business, and Enterprise has used its PDH facilities to feed both domestic and export demand for polymer-grade propylene. Prior to this reported maintenance shutdown, the unit was operating at considerable levels, contributing meaningfully to the company’s overall propylene production. The lack of clarity around how extensive the maintenance is, whether it is routine, unforeseen, or due to a technical issue, makes market reaction cautious.
If the unit remains offline for an extended period, we may see pressure on propylene supply, potential increases in propylene and polypropylene prices, and shifts in sourcing decisions. Conversely, a swift return to operation would likely limit disruption. Market participants will be watching for any official statements or notices from Enterprise Products, as well as indicators of when PDH-2 is expected to resume.
