European Propylene Prices Hold Steady Amid Weak Sentiment, Asia Slips Lower

Propylene markets in Europe opened the week flat, with prices left unchanged on Monday. According to an industry source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the numbers held steady but the mood was subdued. Weak buying interest and sluggish demand fundamentals continued to weigh on downstream sectors across the region, leaving buyers hesitant to commit.

“Most players chose to step back, adopting a wait-and-see approach in light of the ongoing volatility,” the source noted, pointing to a cautious atmosphere that has become the norm in recent weeks.

Spot polymer-grade propylene in Europe was assessed at Euro 775-785 per metric ton FD NWE, unchanged from Friday. CIF NWE values followed suit, steady at Euro 755-765 per metric ton.

In contrast, Asian propylene markets saw a mild retreat. Prices slipped by USD 5 per metric ton, with FOB Korea assessments on Monday standing at USD 745-755. The decline reflects a softer tone in the region, as sentiment diverged slightly from Europe’s holding pattern.

For now, stability in Europe masks the underlying fragility in demand, while Asia signals the possibility of further weakness ahead. Traders remain watchful, but caution prevails.
