Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Plans October Maintenance Shutdown for No. 2 Paraxylene Unit in Mailiao

Market contacts in Taiwan report that Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp (FCFC) is preparing to take its No. 2 paraxylene (PX) unit offline for scheduled maintenance in October 2025. The facility, situated in Mailiao, carries a nameplate capacity of 700,000 metric tons per year and plays a central role in the company’s aromatic chemicals operations.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the precise start date and the expected duration of the turnaround have not yet been finalized, and formal confirmation from the company remains pending. Traders and downstream producers are monitoring developments closely, as any extended outage could influence PX supply balances across Asia at a time when seasonal demand for polyester feedstocks typically remains steady.

The planned maintenance underscores the routine but strategically important shutdowns that shape paraxylene availability and pricing in the regional market. Participants throughout the aromatics chain are expected to watch for an official schedule to better gauge potential impacts on both spot values and contractual flows in the weeks ahead.
