Formosa Plastics Slates Mid-August Shutdown for Mai Liao PVC Unit in Scheduled Turnaround

Formosa Plastics Corporation (FPC) is preparing for a scheduled shutdown of its Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) production unit at Mai Liao, Taiwan, in mid-August 2025, according to updated information obtained by Polymerduniya. A source in Taiwan confirmed that the facility will go offline around August 15 and is expected to remain shut until approximately August 21, 2025. Situated in Mai Liao, this PVC unit has an annual capacity of about 462,000 metric tons, making its temporary outage a potentially significant factor for regional supply dynamics.

The planned maintenance break comes at a time when PVC supply chains are closely watched by manufacturers and downstream users. A week-long production halt at a facility of this scale could tighten near-term availability, potentially prompting shifts in regional pricing or procurement strategies.

Producers and buyers across Asia will be monitoring the situation closely, particularly given previous disruptions at the site: in early 2025, FPC’s PVC unit experienced an unplanned shutdown earlier this year. The mid-August maintenance adds another chapter to an increasingly production-sensitive supply landscape.
