Jiangsu Yida Chemical Shuts Propylene Oxide Plant for Maintenance, Duration Uncertain

China’s propylene oxide market is on alert following an unplanned pause at one of the country’s key production sites. Industry sources report that Jiangsu Yida Chemical has taken its propylene oxide (PO) unit offline for maintenance, with the shutdown believed to have begun around September 7, 2025. The company has not yet issued an official statement confirming the length of the outage, leaving market participants speculating about how long the plant will remain idle.

The facility, located in Jiangsu province, is capable of producing 150,000 metric tons of propylene oxide annually, making it a significant contributor to China’s PO supply. Propylene oxide is a critical feedstock for a variety of downstream products, including polyurethanes and glycols, and any prolonged disruption could influence regional availability and pricing.

Traders and end users are closely watching for updates as uncertainty over the restart timeline creates potential ripples through derivative markets. Until the company provides confirmation, the market remains cautious, with participants assessing whether the outage will tighten supply or remain a short-lived maintenance event.
