Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has awarded Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Hydrocarbon Onshore division a significant engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) contract for a massive petrochemical project in Bina, Madhya Pradesh. A Linear Low-Density Polyethylene and High-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE/HDPE) swing unit with two production trains, each with a capacity of 575 KTPA, is part of the scope of work. When the project is finished, it will be India’s largest LLDPE/HDPE swing unit, setting a new standard for domestic polyethylene production. It will be provided on a lump-sum turnkey basis.
The project is an important component of BPCL’s Bina Petrochemicals and Refinery Expansion Project, which intends to build a fully integrated petrochemical complex and increase refinery capacity from 7.8 million metric tonnes per year to around 11 million metric tonnes per year. The program is consistent with the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat aim of increasing domestic polymer production and lowering import dependence.
