PetroChina’s Guangdong Petrochemical Sets Styrene Unit Offline for Maintenance Starting September

PetroChina Guangdong Petrochemical is scheduled to take its Styrene Monomer (SM) unit offline for maintenance beginning on September 5, 2025, an industry source in China confirmed to Polymerduniya.

The planned shutdown is set to impact production, although no specific timeline for the duration of the maintenance has been disclosed. Located in Guangdong, the SM unit boasts a production capacity of 800,000 metric tons per year, marking it as a significant contributor to regional styrene supply.

This development comes amid a series of strategic maintenance cycles across the PetroChina network. Previously, the company performed maintenance on its No. 2 PP unit earlier this year, underscoring its commitment to regular operational upkeep.
