Petronas Chemicals Aromatics Eyes Mid-October Restart for Kerteh PX Plant

Petronas Chemicals Aromatics (PCA) is preparing to bring its Paraxylene (PX) plant in Kerteh, Malaysia, back online after nearly two months of downtime. According to a source, operations are expected to resume by mid-October 2025, following a maintenance shutdown that began in the latter half of August.

While the reported timeline points to a restart within weeks, the schedule has not been confirmed by an official company statement. Market participants remain watchful, as any shift in production could ripple through regional PX supply chains.

The Kerteh facility, with a production capacity of 550,000 metric tons per year, plays a notable role in Malaysia’s aromatics output. The restart, once verified, is likely to draw attention from traders and downstream polyester producers who rely on steady PX availability.

For now, the industry waits to see whether the mid-October target holds firm, or if the timeline will extend further.
