Petronas to Pause Kerteh Butyl Acetate Output in Early 2026, Market Watches for Impact

Petronas Chemicals is preparing for a significant maintenance turnaround, with plans to shut down its butyl acetate (butac) unit at Kerteh by the end of the first quarter of 2026, according to a Polymerduniya source in Malaysia. While the specific date and duration remain unconfirmed, industry insiders expect the plant to be offline through this period.

With a production capacity of 50,000 metric tons per year, the Kerteh butac facility plays a meaningful role in the region’s chemical feedstock supply. Its temporary closure could tighten short-term availability and influence downstream markets.

This announcement adds to a series of planned and unplanned shutdowns across PCG’s network in recent years, including maintenance at crackers and glycol ethers plants in Kerteh, contributing to variable plant utilisation rates.
