Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical has revealed plans for a significant maintenance shutdown at its high-density polyethylene (HDPE) unit, according to a Polymeduniya source in China. The plant, located in Maoming, Guangdong, will cease operations from late October 2025 and is expected to remain offline through the end of December 2025.
This HDPE unit boasts a substantial production capacity of 350,000 metric tons per year, making its temporary closure a notable disruption in China’s polymer supply chain.
The planned maintenance wipeout comes amid a broader wave of scheduled overhauls affecting polyethylene facilities across South China in the second half of 2025. The shutdown emphasizes Sinopec Maoming’s intertwining role in the region’s polymer production infrastructure and the supply implications that such downtime may trigger in the market.
