Sibur, Russia’s leading polymer producer, has unveiled SIBEX® PPI030CF, its newest polypropylene grade engineered specifically for retort packaging applications in food and animal feed sectors. Retort packaging, hermetically sealed and capable of withstanding sterilization temperatures of up to 120–130 °C, offers a lightweight, flexible alternative to traditional glass and metal containers by improving logistics efficiency and reducing per-unit cost.
The SIBEX® PPI030CF formulation delivers optimized flowability and incorporates a stabilization system designed to produce films with robust mechanical strength, superior weldability, and airtight seals capable of surviving high-temperature sterilization cycles. This innovation enables Russian packaging manufacturers to replace imported polypropylene variants, delivering a domestic solution that meets both performance and cost targets for food and feed packaging.
Sibur’s Research & Development centre, PolyLab, developed the PPI030CF material to directly address the rigorous demands of retort environments. The polymer layer uses resistance to acidic, fatty, and salty contents while maintaining hermetic performance and thermal stability, critical for long-duration packaging.
This new grade reinforces Russia’s drive toward import substitution in high-value packaging applications while aligning with broader industrial goals of boosting domestic capabilities. As Sibur expands its offering of specialty grades, it is poised to establish a stronger presence in both internal and export markets with products that combine advanced performance with national production advantages.
